TTC#10 - Use an Animal + Give them Wings!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the April edition of The Twisted Challenges. This is our 10th Challenge and we are absolutely thrilled with the love you have given us!

So for this month, we are challenging you to create a project that includes and Animal, and you have to give wings to the animal. (Animals/birds/insects that already have wings don't count!)

So for my project today, I have a cute interactive card. I loved this quote I found on Pintrest and wanted to use that as a starting point for my card.

I followed Jennifer Mcguire's card tutorial on making this double slider card..and then added a slight twist of my own. I simply mounted my slider element on an acetate, so that it would rise higher, than if I had just put on the sliding belt.
Maybe this needs a video to explain..soon!

Here's a small clip showing how the card works!

Card products
Stamps - Hog heaven from MFT stamps
Butterfly from Hero arts, Antique engravings.
Dies - Fence, grass border, grass slope from MFT
           Square window die Lil Inkers
Cloud stencil - MFT
Distress oxide tumbled glass for clouds
Copics , Memento black ink
Neenah solar white 80lbs paper for stamping and coloring.

So that's it for my card,  hope you liked the card and do decide to play along this fun challenge.
This month we are being sponsored by Expressions Craft with a voucher for Rs.1000.

Exploding Card | Origami card

Sorry about the abrupt halt to the Pattern play class posts....day 4 arrived and hubby fell sick. And I never got around to even finishing watching the class 4 and 5 till later in the weeks. I still have to get a hang of those two last days that I missed...

Today I share a card I made for friend..this year I have decided to send as many cards as I can. Even if they reach late, but they will reach. :)

I chose to defy convention and not call this card by its given name....The napkin fold card..Simply because I've never ever come across a napkin that's folded like this...and I chose to make a variation because I didn't like the band  across it.
Somehow the band made the card feel open and incomplete (???) perhaps...I'm a bit weird that way!!

So here goes my Exploding card/Origami Card

I think I'm fixated on the color red...this is the 3rd red card I've done in 2 weeks!! :) This uses my new Embossing folder from Couture Creations, that I picked up in my local craft store. YES! my local craft store!! Distressed the embossed areas with barn door ink and then direct to paper over the embossed areas for more contrast.

The sentiment is my new hero arts stamp.. and the little butterfly is a Cheery lynn die. Some really small bling stones are on the embossed flourishes.
( So where's the actual card? ) hold ya horses

This is how it opens. Like a Trifold with an exploding card in the centre. Its fun to change things now and then. All panels have the same embossing, distressing and inking. With an edge of deco shells border punch.

I kept the card relatively simple. Simply because in this fold I had met my nemesis. It took me 4 cardstocks to get one fold right. I made and gave it up so many times....1mm off and it would not fold!! Am not touching it for another 3 weeks now!!  Though I now know what all mistakes I did, so might not be so hard the next time around!
The PP is pebbles inc from Itsy bitsy.

And this is the inside. Love love the birthday sentiment. I wish I had time to do more. But did not want to add flowers or flourishes. They're soo passe now. Every card has flower and flourish...and I'm challenging myself not to use them .

And I'm glad my friend loved it....I did make some bookmarks for her too...will share in the next post..

Sending to Crafter Corner's Bingo challenge- Top horizontal row..distressing, rhinestone and ribbon.

Pattern Play - Day 2

Fnally got down to do cards for Day 2 of class...This day was  stamping & patterned paper...I wanted to some emboss resist, but alas I have somehow managed to melt my heat gun. The heat gun works, but keeps on melting its outer casing...so its gotta go into the trash!! I opted of paper piecing shown by Jennifer Rzasa.

Cased from this card, that I have pinned on my Pinterest board since sooo long!Sometimes I think I pin things just for heck and never make anything out of them. So finally picked up something that I have loved for soo long! I wanted pattern paper and stamping, yet I wanted it to be Clean and simple.

I have no clue what pattern papers these are. These are from a huge stash that my friend Jan had sent me. 2 yrs later I am using it. The sentiment using it after 8 months of buying the stamp...getting the idea of the hoarder I am? hehe!!
I can tell you that the stamps are from hero arts...and coated with startdust stickles.

Since the stamp was huge, I had to make sure I upped the size of the card too. It's an A5 card...8x5 in.

 Here's the happy bling!!
Entering this card into the Hero arts Spring theme contest...what says spring better than bright and vibrant flowers...

Dots and stripes

Hey everyone…it’s the last day of holidays for me..well for hubs actually…which means more time for myself…certainly will miss bugging him all day!! Oh well, another holiday looms on the horizon for us..10 days in Jan. Want holidays, marry a lawyer!!

Ok enough about holidays…did you check out the card on the Pie lane blog? I loved making it and its so easy, even the most novice card maker could make it…do drop by…

I don’t know what prompted me to create such a bright card…but bright it is…Base is Peacock Blue Fabriano CS.

The distressed panel started as White CS (Brustro) and distressed it with Wild honey, and Spiced marmalade (that is one heavy orange color) and a touch of Vintage photo.
Stamped the hero arts flourish background (thanks you guys for this fabbie stamp) with spiced marmalade. Tags are hand cut, added a punched 5 petal flower and punched a hole through it..tied some charcoal twine.

Pattern papers are from Itsy bitsy. The paper is double sided, and I’ve used the orange polka dotted side to punch butterflies in( 3-in-1 butterfly punch), and the striped side to add a border…which is also punched with Threading water Fiskars punch.

A bit of Sakura Diamond dust on the butterfly completes the card…
Sentiment is from the Penny black Betsy bluebell set (see I used both my sets!!!)
How could I not show my butterflies?

Just a shout out for a fabulous girl's give-away...Priya Sivaraj is celebrating her blog anniversary and her wedding anniversary with this fabulous goodies...drop by her blog to wish her and maybe win yourself some fabulous crafting goodies!

Also I'm cleaning out some old hobby ideas clear stamps at throw away prices...if you want to have a look, check out my sale page...

Pink, White Black and Butterflies!

Before I jump into explaining my long title...let me first share that my first ever easel card with the cutsie Owl was one of the Top 4 at Lily pad Cards....YAY!! Its a fabulous feeling! Thanks Miss Boo for letting me know!!!
And now to today's post...
As the title says, Its gotta be a pink, white and black card...and this is the first challenge on Gopi Patel's Create Me Pink Blog..

Since I was in the previous card mode...I whipped up a similar card using the colors of this challenge...BUT, I used the Heart wings butterfly!!! Thank you Manasa for sending this to me on loan...I love it....Thanks girlie...

The Magical Background is embossed in black and then applied Worn lipstick to the front and just a touch of Fired brick Distress inks to the edges. The Butterflies are stamped and embossed on Vellum with white embossing powder and sentiment is from Papertrey ink..heat embossed in black.
And if you can see a not-so-subtle shimmer on the butterfly hearts, its from the Sakura Diamond Dust glaze pen...

Also for CMP's First challenge, there was Pink Pick..to use one other embellishment...I've used rhinestones on the butterfly body.

Couldn't decide between the white and black background, so showing you both!!

Also picked up a small trick from Jennifer Mcguire's inspiration Showcase class of propping the wings up...they won't ever fold down...just pop a small bit of foam adhesive under the wing...

The wings will be popped up even after mailing!! Isn't that gorgeous??
So that's it from me now..in case you want me to post details about the same blue card...let me know..I'll make a post for that too...

Easel Card

Hello everyone, Thanks for a wonderful response to our blog hop...I loved that so many of you stopped by to wish Shalini for her birthday...made it extra special...Thank you to everyone who stopped by!
This time around I'm trying Easel card...phew!! I have never made an easel card ever...never ever..not once in my 6 yrs of crafting!!

For my easel card...I decided to skip all the cutting and let my die-cut machine do all the work...here's the card..
I used Lily pad challenge sketch as a guide to make this card...There are 3 shades of brown on this card. The brown base, light and dark brown for the mats..and of course the glittery brown.
The glitter strips were cut free hand...the middle strip popped up on foam for dimension and for the owl to hide in. The OWL is a sticker from Itsy bitsy.
The lightest brown has been inked on the edges with Vintage photo...white gel pen for the faux stitching...Hero Arts small alphabets to create the sentiment..and pearl outliner to create the faux pearls.

The easel stands up on the sentiment strip and the two butterflies...cut using Martha Stewart punches and tied with Maraschino twine....

Linking this to Colours Dekor - Spookes & sparkles!
So that's all about this card...do tell me what you think of it...or if you have any questions...shoot me an email!!

Sketch Time

I'm playing with a sketch...Sketch is by Piali...

And since I wanted to take part in the hero arts challenge this time...didn't have any autumn stamps, but window card..That I could do...so this is my entry for the window cards on the Hero Arts blog!

Supplies - Woodgrain textured CS (local), pattern papers from Echo park and Papermania
MS 3-in-1 butterfly punch, Pie lane glitter balls,Pie lane heart rhinestone
Charcoal twine-Baker's twine. Stamps Hero Arts-Kiss from the sun, inside sentiment -3 bugs in a rug. Felt wings from a key chain, distress inks, LSG-glitz spritz and white gel pen, stamp-a-ma-jig

This Pink CS actually started out as white textured CS, I covered it heavily with distress inks - Worn lipstick and Fired brick. Then came my newest glitter spray, The lindy stamp gang's Glitz spritz in Scintillating Silver. And oh gosh, those are some amazing sprays..such a fine and beautiful mist..totally worth every penny I spent on it...

Here is the sparkly sheen on that CS, it settled beautifully in the grooves and is even shinier IRL...I added a row of butterflies from Martha steward punch, and black glitter balls.. (one of those glitter balls is trying to run away..didn't see it till I just posted it)

The inside again began as a plain white drawing paper, heavy use of distress inks, tumbled glass, broken china, shabby shutters and peeled paint. After they dried, I stamped the dress 4 times on the paper, and paper pieced it with echo park and papermania papers...(sorry about those pins hanging in mid air..)Popped up the 3rd dress with foam dots and added the felt wings behind it..a baby girl is like an angel, is she not? I sure seem to think so..
Added just a bit of charcoal baker's twine..and some fancy bows! That's all for this card..

So there you have it..my very heavily distressed and colorful card...I must say I'm in love with distress inks and its my day 7 of doing the Inspiration showcase class with Jennifer McGuire..and boy these distress inks can do wonders!!! Loving it..you'll be seeing a lot of distressing from me..

Pssst....just a little shout out to Vicky's (clips-n-cuts blog)  give-away for a 25$ gift voucher from Simon says!! Click here to find out...

See you soon!!

My love for bling....

....never seems to end...the day I got my Pixie Dust glitter pack from Pie Lane, I wanted to sit and make a card...but that same day I had to travel...so well today I finished it...and even though its very cloudy, rainy and oh so chilly here (yes, my prayers have finally been answered !!)  I took some pics and immediately got around to sharing it..I'll try for a better pic soon!

This card is by no means my own..Its a CASE of a card I saw on the Hero Arts blog, but I loved the simplicity of it, and having just got my own set..had to play with it...and it gave me endless possibilities to glitter up!!

Yeah, I tend to yap a lot!!

But when it comes to glitter, I don't kid..I love it...and when I'd asked Srinanda of Pie Lane Studio for some Pixie dust glitter, they didn't disappoint me...I looove this glitter...just sparkly and yummy!!  (p.s. Sri, I think I have two same greens in the box :( }

And what helps in making this glitter adhere is my newest toy, Quickie glue pen, a big dry painting brush to dust off the excess glitter and 2-3 scratch papers...use the same paper to catch the glitter and you're likely to have contamination (that psycho glitter speak for you)

Supplies - DP from echo park, stamp set - Be happy  Hero arts, and sentiment - thoughtful messages
glitter balls in maroon.

I think the DP is splash or summer days from Echo park...getting old...(yeah birthday next month :D)
I paper pieced the entire flower and then applied glitter, one part at a time..tried to give a bit of shading in the leaves..and the stem is bronze glitter. I added a few butterflies, but they didn't seem to fit the card, so off they went (just in case you had to ask where my butterflies were!!)

So that's it..oh yeah! before I forget, I've updated my sale page with some stampin up stamp sets.

Creating a Scene...

Not its not what it sounds like...but have been on a spree on creating scenes...especially after getting my new distress inks and hero arts stamps...I created 5 card fronts in 2 hours..but those are still awaiting cards...that later...today for the card that makes me squeal in happiness everytime I look at it...

This card is for Hero Arts August challenge - to create a scene...

Ever since I found a wood-grain texture paper from a local store, I have been dying to use it...and this was the perfect opportunity!!This card is for my BFF since school days...but always a phone call away...haven't met in a quite a bit of years...but that doesn't stop friendship...

I love this CS...but it was a very pale beige color...to make it look like actual boards, I cut apart the strips and distressed them with Vintage photo..the ink brings out the texture of the CS..
The curtains are parchment papers, cut free hand and colored with bic-markers...and the frame around the window (which looks lavender, but is brown) is popped up on dimensionals.
The flowers stamped at the bottom of the card are from the set- be happy and the grass is from that set too...I stamped the flowers on white CS,colored with Niji Pearlescent paints and paper pieced on the card.
The beautiful beads in the center of the flowers and the butterflies are from Pie Lane Studio.

This is the inside of the card...this is what I was playing around with..distress inks, and the new hero arts silhouette stamp- Garden bouquet..I love the contrast of black on the background...inks used for the background are peeled paint, shabby shutters, broken china and tumbled glass..
And I must say, if I didn't have the stamp-a-ma-jig..it would have been so tough to place this perfectly...

The sentiment is from the Be happy set...and goes perfectly for the challenge on Crafty JC-Friends are forever!! and for the Wee Memories - Dare to color challenge

If there is any other thing you would like to know, as always, feel free to ask!!

Just a little pic to show you the metallic sheen in the watercolors that I mentioned in the previous post..and of course the gorgeous little butterfly!!!

See ya soon!

ATC overload

What can I say...I just finally (thank the Lord for that) got my Hero arts stamps. Apparently international shipping is taking around 20-25 days now!! I finally (yes, finally) own a butterfly stamp. For all the butterfly craziness that goes around in my craft room, I don't own a single decent butterfly stamp..that is until now..Say hello to Antique engravings and Kiss for the sun!! What yummy sets!!

I've been wanting to enter HA challenges for a very long time....Having one sentiment set never really quite cut it, so here are my first entries for the HA challenge, to create ATCs.

This uses the Kiss from the Sun set..Colored with my Sharpies, glue and gloss and background done with distress inks- Broken china and shabby shutters.

This ATC uses my most wanted set...I've been wishing for this set for over 6 months..finally its mine. The Antique engravings set.  This ATC took the longest to make.
-Started out as white Fabriano CS base, covered it with Worn lipstick distress ink.
-Clear embossed with magical background and covered the whole ATC with broken china. The embossing shows the color underneath..
-Stamped the sentiment in Broken china, clear embossed it and covered it with worn lipstick. (reverse of the ATC base)

I learnt this from Britta and Heather Maria

And my most favorite of all 3. I love this butterfly....
-I stamped the butterfly with black on vellum, clear embossed it and colored with sharpies on reverse of the vellum. It looks like glass..simply awesome!
-The base of the ATC is covered in shabby shutters and stamped with magical background using the same ink.
-Distressed with vintage photo on the edges.
-Stamped the moth on the ATC base, then attached the vellum butterflies with glue dots.

Just showing the dimension on the butterflies, and little bit of glitter.
Hope you enjoyed my newest craze. I'm addicted to distress inks.  (You think?)

My First Distress Inks!!!

I just got my first set of distress inks and one HA background..And I had a blast playing with them. I need to experiment a lot with these... they are so so versatile..I'm still learning...

This is not my best attempt, this is my first attempt..so forgive any imperfections...I love the colors..and most probably will be getting more colors...

I've used Hero arts magical background with clear embossing. Distress inks used are Wild honey, broken china and shabby shutters, along with Vintage photo on the edges and the sentiment banner.
Sentiment is again Hero Arts valentine sayings. Bronze pearls (local find).

So what do you say?

Love ya

Welcome to my first project in 2011.Kinda late isn't it? Well better late than never I say!!!

This card turned out better than I had hoped. This image is one from Hearts and soul rubber stamps, and I absolutely love it. Coloring it was a challenge, but I decided to break out my newest purchase, Derwent Inktense Watercolor pencils. Oh my gosh! They're the bestest pencils ever...if I could get more colors I would gladly give away my Faber-Castell watercolors. I just didn't find any good skin colors in Derwent. A little color goes a long long way! If you want the best, get these colors..they're no where near Prisma color pencils, but in the watercolor pencils, it can't get better than this. (at least in India).

Isn't this image gorgeous?  When I'd seen this image on Dina's blog 2 yrs ago, I had to have it..though its only the second time that I'm inking it. I used Fabriano Watercolor paper to stamp and color it. This paper holds the water beautifully. There is a learning curve to these colors, and I'm still learning.

I've used a new technique to glue those punched out hearts. I took and embossing stylus, and embossed from the back to create dimension on the hearts. Then added glue and gloss under the hearts so it holds its shape (Thanks for the tip Dina) It doesn't show in this photo but its nice and puffy.

This card uses the sketch from Annabelle Stamps ABSC033 and the colors from Annabelle's Stamps Challenge : Say it In-Red and White.

Also entering it into a couple of more challenges:
Mark's Finest Papers - To use Hearts on your card
Really Reasonable Ribbon - Hearts Theme and Ribbon
Bunny Zoe's Crafts - Theme is "Love is in the Air"
Crafty Cardmakers Challenge -To use pencils to color
